brothers at war
there this movie receiving great reviews across the board called 'brothers at war' its about a man who visits his two brothers who are serving in Iraq. It seems really touching and is only playing limited release, but luckily the Algonquin Theatre in Manasquan is showing it April 26, 29, 30 at 1 and 7:30.

it's wednesday already
it's been raining up a storm here in new jersey, which is bad news. but I've been movie-ing a lot lately and my recommendation for today is Sunshine Cleaning starring Amy Adams and Alan Arkin and others. It's playing at the Red Bank theatre and chronicles the story of a single mom who works as a body clean up lady to get her son into private school. It's a great plot and everything is well developed, and I liked it.
It got sad too, and happy, and gross. i love it

TODAY
today, i met with a features writer from the Asbury Park Press named Patti Bartsche. She's really nice and was very informative. She was the editor-in-chief of Manasquan's newspaper when she attended high school there, and had some interesting stories of her early years in the business. I had always kept Journalism in the back of my mind as a career choice, but Mrs. Bartsche told me that majoring in Journalism is a bad idea, so I'm going to take that advice.
I also learned that it's easier to get into contact with high profile people than I had originally thought. She said all she does is google "celebrity's name publicist" and works from there, so if I ever need Zach Braff's phone number that's what I'm gonna doooo.
So, on another note, the Asbury Par Film Festival is this weekend. There are a lot of movies there, some about Johnny Cash and a couple centered around the jersey shore. You should all check it out, it starts thursday

inside all of us is adventure.
of all the trailers of all the movies of all the books of all the times, this is one that I am most excited excited for.
it's directed by spike jonze and an adaptation of the book "where the wild things are"
the monsters look beautiful, as do the entire style of direction.
i also love the song in the trailer by arcade fire.
im in love.

i feel lethal, on the verge of frenzy.
i skipped school today, it is now 12:10 and I'm going to start watching American Psycho starring Christian Bale. It was released in 2000 and is unrated! oh man. It's about a psycho killer. see ya later.
it's 1:54 and that movie was sick as hellllll.
i thought it was funny and weird and sick and amusing and perplexing.
it's a paradox.
i laughed a lot, but it was while murders were happening?
watch this movie if you don't get grossed out easily.
"with a chiseled chin and an iron physique, Patrick Bateman's killer looks make him the ideal yuppie --- and the ideal serial killer."
christian bale's performance was epic.

I APOLOGIZE
please disregard my previous post about I Love You, Man
it was really bad and unfunny and I would recommend it to no one.
there were only several funny jokes.
multiple overplayed characters.
a flimsy secondary story line with a failed attempt at a funny ending.
i really hated it.
also, it had a bad soundtrack with only one rush song on it and usually the soundtrack makes the comedy movie for me, for example Pineapple Express.

to die by your side is such a heavenly way to die.
i am going to the philly film fest that starts march 26th and (500) days of Summer seems to be the most talked about movie and is the opening night movie, and i plan on seeing it.
It received a standing ovation at Sundance. It's a boy meets girl story, but the girl doesn't believe in love, and the boy has been taught his whole life that he needs to find "the one."
see you at the philly film fest?

now this thing:
INTERVIEW WITH JACKIE NASTI
What were your sleeping habits when you attended Wall and how do they compare to today's, now that you go to night school?
- Well, when I went to Wall I tried to get to bed as early as possible but it was never enough, so I always ended up passing out when I got home from school. Now I go to bed later and wake up later, since I'm most definitely a night person, but I feel much better about getting the right amount of sleep.
Do you feel you perform better at night school?
- I'm able to concentrate much better at night school, since I'm not trying to keep myself from falling asleep constantly any more at school. So yeah, I'm doing much better now and I have more time to do my homework, so I always have it done.
What were the leading factors in making your decision to leave Wall?
- Basically, I was always late and missed school often, and I was afraid that I wouldn't be able to graduate. Now that I'm in night school (and Brookdale) I never miss class, am always on time, and know that I'm going to graduate for sure and with better grades.
Do you feel that going to night school has improved your health at all?
- Yes, I do think that I've been healthier since leaving Wall High School. For one thing, I got my tonsils out this summer, so I haven't been sick from that. But also, the lack of sleep really takes a toll on teenagers. Since I've been getting enough sleep, I've been feeling so much better and haven't really gotten sick at all. I've also been noticeably happier since I left, which is a result of being healthy.

she's got a smile.
The Last House on the Left comes out today, and it looks interesting. It's about a girl that gets beat up and left for dead. Her attackers then get stuck in a storm so they need to ask an innocent family to stay at their house for the night. By some stroke of fate, the family turns out to be that of the girl who they killed. By another twist of fate, she's not dead and she goes home and panic ensues.
The trailer has that really cool Taken by Trees cover of Sweet Child o' Mine, which is really really good and probably the main reason I'm going to see this movie.

dog carcass in alley this morning.
Kat's Journal: March 9, 2007
Cramming the final pages in as the opening trailers attempted to distract me and a cell phone light lit the panels, I finished the critically acclaimed graphic novel, Watchmen. Then, I watched the movie.
The opening credits set the tone for the whole film, and as a huge Bob Dylan fan I was smitten from the start.
The transition from novel to film was not designed for a die hard novel fan though, it appealed to a wider audience. This was a sacrifice, but one that had to be made in order to make the film marketable and profitable.
The changes in plot did change the overall vibe of the ending though, and I don't want to be a spoiler, but it changed the enemy from unknown intergalactic invaders to something less unfamiliar. This kind of took away from the unity that was acheived, I think. But to make up for it, the whole first half of the movie was dead on to the book, and at certain points the shots were taken right from the panels, which is a necessity when going from graphic novel to film.
The effects were good, the only problem I had was an overuse of slow motion. At some points it was completely unnecessary and annoying, but the Mars scenes were outstanding. The overall look of the movie was edgy and fit well with the story.
I am in love with the soundtrack. All of the recognizable songs gave a familiar feel to the film and tied well with the story. EXCEPT HALLELUJAH. i use that song as an alarm clock and kind of despsie the way they used it in the movie. Also, I think Tyler Bates did a great job composing, especially with "I Love You" it's a really good song.
The nudity of the film was a problem to some people? I found that I didn't mind Dr. Manhattan walking around naked because I was preoccupied with the fact that he was blue.
The violence was horrifying, but we're adapted straight from the novel so I can't complain. It was just so harrowing to see something so horrific brought from pictures to film, it made the actions and scenes a lot more disturbing seeing them acted out. That's another point I'm going to make about the adaptation, it made a lot of things feel more real than just reading it. I connected more with the movie than the book, but I enjoyed the plot of the book more.
My favorite scene in both, though, is Dr. Manhattan on Mars. I don't want to give anything away, but the meaning and emotion behind the whole scene coupled with the amazing effects just made it awesome.
Overall, I liked the movie. If I hadn't read the book I would've loved it. As usual, I guess, the book is so much better.
but really, don't even bother about what I say, just listen to what Pruane2 has to say

a miracle, mixaphorically speaking.
whenever I do activities, I play a movie in the background.
Today, while winding down from a snow day and cleaning my room I put on "Miracle" and "O Brother, Where Art Thou?"
Both are excellent movies, but polar opposites.
but, maybe I'm going out on a limb, they are shockingly the same idea. Both retell a famous story! WOAH
"Miracle" is about the olympic hockey teams underdog victory over Russia at Lake Placid. It's an uplifting, typical, sports movie. That's why I love it though. It combines my love of hockey with my love of movies with my love of kurt russel with my love of the song Dream On.
The acting is subpar, but come on. It's a disney movie, if you're expecting oscars, dream on. Kurt Russel does great though. It's my favorite film of his, escape from new york being a close second.
On a more Coen brothers note, "O Brother, Where Art Thou?" is a retelling of Homer's epic poem, The Odyssey, in an excellent way. The songs from this movie get stuck in my head for hours. I can't tell you how many times I've sung "Man of Constant Sorrow." I also love to watch this movie and pick out the parallels between The Odyssey. Homer himself is given a cowrite credit, which I find awesome.
The movie is perfect for any Coen brothers, country music, Homer, treasure hunt, or just quirky/funny movie fan. It's epic (pun)
i have always wanted a can of dapper dan.

wall high school
had a film festival that ended about 2 hours ago.
i wish my school was more into making movies =[
on another note, two movies I'm looking forward to are...
"Adventureland" and "Phoebe in Wonderland"
Adventureland = During the summer of 1987, recent college grad James Brennan (Eisenberg) takes what he thinks is a going-nowhere job at his local amusement park, only to discover it's a perfect opportunity to prepare himself for the real world.
also any movie with blister in the sun in the trailer is definitely for me.
and
Phoebe in Wonderland
Confounded by her clashes with the seemingly rule-obsessed world, a little girl seeks enlightenment from her unconventional drama teacher.

Six Degrees of Seperation
Have you ever played this game? It's one of my favorites.
Let's play. James Franco and Anna Faris.
James Franco was in Pineapple Express with Seth Rogen
Seth Rogen was in Horton Hears a Who with Steve Carrel
Steve Carrel was in Anchorman with Luke Wilson
Luke Wilson was in My Super Ex-Girlfriend with Anna Faris
Hey, I did that in five, yay me!
Now I'm going to do it so I can talk about something that I want to do.
The Oscars recently happened, and thats big for movies.
Heath Ledger won one for The Dark Knight
He was in a movie once about Bob Dylan.
I just got an amazing book about Bob Dylan and I want everyone to enjoy it.It's called "Forever Young"

OSCARS post school.
Okay, I was ecstatic when Sean Penn won the Oscar for Best Actor.
I saw both "Milk" and "The Wrestler," and even though I can't deny Rourke's emotional performance, I felt that Penn's was much more deserving. In terms of skill, Penn is the better of the two. His rendition of Harvey Milk was the more labor intensive role.
While Rourke did have to physically modify himself for the role, the character mirrored his life story so intimately that it would he practically portrayed himself.
Penn, on the other hand, immersed himself into the life of a completely different man, in a different time and impeccably brought it to the screen.
I'm just glad that the "comeback" aspect of Rourke's performance didn't push him to the podium.
BUT Rourke did win the Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Drama, so that's good.
I'm just really glad Penn got the Oscar.
HUGH JACKMAN ON THE OTHER HAND IS REALLY PERPLEXING
First, I see him doing this:
then I remember the awesome movie of his coming out soon seen here:
I love how this guy can dance and sing, then work out for four months straight and slice stuff up with his hands. The Wolverine movie looks so amazing, and I really am excited about Gambit's appearance. Also, how awesome is it that they didn't just make an X-Men 4. The studio is mixing things up a little, and I like it

I don't understand the question, and I won't respond to it.
For three years, my life has been void of something great. I've been sitting, waiting, wishing for the day when I would once again get to see my favorite cast of characters fill the screen. "Arrested Development" was on for three short seasons, but ever since it was cancelled by Fox in 2006, it has been constantly playing either in quotes in my head, or on my dvd player (I own all three seasons on DVD and can recite multiple episodes because of my extensive viewing).
The show was critically acclaimed by dozens of reviewers and well adored by it's fanbase, but sadly the ratings were never up to par with Fox's needs for the show. Luckily, the handful of people who did enjoy the show, myself wholeheartedly included, never gave up and took the close of the final episode as a sign... "I don't see it as a T.V. show, maybe a movie though?"
Just look!
come on, if Keith Olberman asks, it has to be done... and luckily from what I read a movie is almost, definitely happening.

Multiple sources found when you google "arrested development movie" say that it is a defintie go, but none are %100 reliable. Jason Bateman is supposedly on, as well as Jeffrey Tambor. The IMDB page tells me that it's "in production," my fingers are crossed for a 2010 movie, which would just make my laugh.
In the event of a movie though, there are certain demands I must make.
1. Don't compromise George Michael just because Michael Cera is a big star now.
2. Don't commercialize it too much, keep some of the running jokes running. "Her?" and "It's an Illusion." and a Franklin duet and so many other quirky long term jokes are what made the show for me, and if they're replaced to make the movie more receptable to audiences, the movie would not be able to compare to the show. See, New York Magazine agrees with me.
http://nymag.com/daily/entertainment/2008/02/arrested_development_movie.html
3. Do bring back some beloved guest stars, specifically Bob Bablaw so I can say his name
4. Please make an awesome soundtrack with "Big Yellow Joint" and "Free" and "Final Countdown" and the "Mr.F theme" and every other song I hum whenever I think about the show.
Please make this movie =[
like i'm eighty nine percent sure this is going to happen!

CONNECTING FILMS TO TEEN ISSUES
So, a feature idea that effects teens and is under the umbrella of movies....
how about...
uhhhh
well, in connection to the post that I did literally two minutes ago I could write a feature about the translation from book/play to film and whether or not it works. So many stories don't fit well on screen, but some were practically written for it. Also, when people get so into a book they freak out when it gets made into a movie and go crazy over it and wait for hours to get opening day tickets. It's crazy stuff. So, in conclusion, I would write a feature that explores the effects of book to movie adaptations on fans of the books and also how it introduces younger generations to books they may never have heard of. Also, how some books work in film and others dont.
It's probably going to be awesome, not gonna lie
You probably think this world is a dream come true... but you're wrong
To be quite frank, I'm disappointed. On Saturday I went to see "Coraline." I went to middlebrook specifically to see it in 3D and paid extra for the really cool 3D glasses, but even though I was looking super cool with my shades on I couldn't get into the movie one bit.
It kinda was bad. I don't want to just flat out say I didn't like it because then I'm disagreeing with tons of people, but well, I didn't like it. I thought the story was uneventful and the action of the movie was not a bit enticing. Why was the mom in a neckbrace? Can you explain more about WhyB and why his name is WhyBorn? Can you explain why the Other Father turned into a pumpkin? So many things weren't explained and so many weird things happened. Usually I'm impressed by off the wall things, but these were just boring, even if they were unexpected.
I don't know I don't know I don't know. It was predictable and slow BUT the animation and 3D was really awesome. I felt like it was real?
OH THAT'S ANOTHER THING.
I couldn't connect to the story because I thought of the characters as stop animation dolls, not real people. Therefore, when the Other Mother wanted to poke out her eyes I wasn't appalled. It seemed like a good deal for this little doll to get new doll eyes. If it was a real little girl, maybe I would've been wildly against it, but it was a clay thing so it ain't so bad.
I just couldn't connect to the story one bit, and I really was super excited to see it to. Sorry if you're offended by my disapproval of the movie, but I didn't like it. Super cool for effects, super boring on story.

You know in this life you can loose everything you love, everything that loves you.
I saw "The Wrestler."
I was grotesquely grossed out.
but i liked it
The acting was superb, as everyone else has been saying but I also enjoyed the plot. It was touching and revealed a scary world to me that I was unaware of. I don't really know what to say about it that hasn't been said, but I did like it and would recommend it to anyone that doesn't mind blood and nudity. I wouldn't recommend seeing it with a someone you could feel awkward around. BUT SEE IT
moving on, I've been watching a lot of films so
"AMERICAN TEEN" WAS SO HEARTBREAKING AND EMOTIONALLY DRAINING.
it follows a group of seniors during their last year of high school and chronicles all the typical high school stuff, and as a high school student I really related to it. I felt so involved with each of the characters by the end of the film, I was driven by their dreams and hurt by their actions. I don't know, it was weird, but I felt like I knew each of the kids? I'm pretty sure that's what the director, Nannette Burstein, was going for and it definitely makes the movie a lot more enjoyable. I cried a lot. =[

Ok, one more amazing movie I've seen is "Horton Hears a Who."
I was skeptical at first because "Aw man, this is animated it's going to be boring because it's a bunch of baby jokes and Dr. Seuss and blah blah blah," but it was really good. There were certain scenes when I was just cracking up for several minutes. Also, I was really impressed by the religous undertones? Maybe because I'm a good ten years older than the target age group I just couldn't escape the "there is someone bigger than our world who is always protecting us" and the "I believe in that dude, so I'm going to be ridiculed and tortured." It was so interwoven into a cute comedy, and usually I would despise this, but it just made the movie a million times cuter. This is the perfect movie to watch when you are on the verge of a three hour nap after a long morning.

DUDES!
So, you know those shows you're embarrassed to admit you love? Mine is "Avatar:The Last Airbender" and dudes, guess what, it's turning into a movie. Downside to this awesome news is that M. Night Shyamalan is directing, and I'm afraid. What if he turns everything upside down and makes big plot twists? What if it's hardly recognizable and I have to decipher everything that happens.
Another odd thing is that they had to drop "avatar" from the movie title because of James Cameron's new film coming out called "Avatar." So, it's just called "The Last Airbender," which is fine by me. Jesse McCartney was supposed to play Zuko, which is laughable, but they got this new kid Dev Patel who everyone will recognize from "Slumdog Millonaire." Another recognizable face is Sokka who will be played by Jackson Rathbone. He was Jasper in this November's hit "Twilight." But, who is going to play Appa? Is he going to be all CGI? I'm worried about this movie so much. I want it to be great, but I have doubts, very high doubts.
MTV posted some information on Patel committing here:
http://moviesblog.mtv.com/2009/02/02/slumdog-star-dev-patel-joins-jackson-rathbone-for-the-last-airbender/
so check that out if you're interested in more information, don't bother with imdb.com because all the posts are about how people think the casting is racist.
and that's ridiculous.

what do people scream when they see you coming?
While battling a cold, trying to remain sane while watching "The Wizard of Oz" for the millionth time, and my grandpa's complaints about BRUCE, I managed to see a total of 20 minutes of the Super Bowl, most of them commercials.
I have a crush on Conan O'brien.
and third was the 3D glasses scheme. I tried desperately to get my hands on a pair, but the young members of the household hoarded them, so I was left in the dust. They were some advertisement for the new movie "Monsters vs. Aliens" which looks pretty cool from the preview. It has Seth Rogen in it, and I find his voice oddly appealing? Is that weird? I don't know, but it's nice. Also, Kiefer! I love Kiefer. The plot goes a little like this : girl gets hit by meteor, girl gets big and is called a monster, government puts her with other monsters, aliens come, the two groups fight.
If the plot doesn't seem great to you, don't worry. The real thing pushing this movie over the edge is that it is 3D and Imax. Personally, that's too much going on and would cause a big headache but I could imagine a 5 year old getting blown away. It comes out in March so if your into silly movies I would check it out, but personally if I had to choose one animated film to see it would be Pixar's "Up," I'm a sucker for anything Pixar and cranky old men movies.
OH according to NBC don't "chuck" your glasses because that lame show "Chuck" is in 3D tonight? whatever whatever whatever.
Three things managed to stick out in this short time, the first being that record setting interception(pick?), but I already forgot what team it was on or who ran that much so I'll move on. Second was the Conan O'brien commercial shown below.

We shall not cease from exploring.
When I was younger, my dad would always attempt to make me a cooler little child. He made me read books I've never heard of, listen to music whose lyrics blew high above my head, and made me watch movies inappropriate for even 16 year old Kat.
One day though, we sat down in front of HBO. It was one of those days when nothing needs to be done because you decided not to do anything. On the T.V. was "Fog of War." It's an award winning documentary by Errol Morris that in essence is just a two hour interview. I'm going to estimate and say I was ten, but my young mind and inability to sit still did not stop me from watching every second of this amazing documentary, and luckily for me I remembered the title and watched it again today, and yesterday.
Ok, so I don't understand how 10 year old Kat appreciated it so much. It's an amazing series of revealing lessons, eleven in all, that are woven into the story of Robert McNamara's life. 10 year old Kat wasn't the avid history buff that 16 year old Kat is, so why did she enjoy it so much?
I HAVE NO CLUE BUT IT'S AMAZING.
The lessons that McNamara portrays are so broad and universal, but he exceptionally expresses how he learned each one in his time during World War 2 as a bombing statistician, as president of Ford, or as Secretary of War under Kennedy and Johnson.
All the lessons hit home, but my favorite is the eleventh, "You can't change human nature."
McNamara explains this "We all make mistakes. We know we make mistakes... war is so complex it's beyond the ability of the human mind to comprehend all the variables. Our judgement, our understading, are not adequate. And we kill people unnecessarily."
It is human nature to make mistakes, even the most horrid of ones. McNamara played a huge role in the Vietnam War, and because of measures he approved, such as Agent Orange, people died.
But, on a lighter note, his full name is Robert Strange McNamara and I thought that was awesome
and also his wife is a cutie
here's a clip from a scene about B20 bombers and McNamara's colleage Lemay, who epitomized Lesson #9, "in order to do good, you may have to engage in evil." It also goes on to explain the bombing of Tokyo, which is kind of heartbreaking.
I could go on forever about this movie, but I really would love everyone in the world to see it and love it to. This is a tough aspiration though because I doubt everyone else shares my intense love of history coupled with a documentary infatuation. I don't know if I can call it inspiring, even though I want to. I'm not inspired to go and drop incendiary bombs on Vietnam, but the lessons he portrays are really worthwhile.
